I always find it interesting that the Times' taste in cosmetics is prohibitively aspirational but their annual beauty awards, which are voted for by their readers. are invariably in favour of the Maybellines and Oil of Olays from your local branch of Tesco. I choose to conclude two things from this: 1. broadsheet style pages peddle a pretentious and fictional lifestyle that is beyond the reach of the vast majority of even their own middle class readership, and 2. just because a moisturiser costs forty quid doesn't mean it's going to be any more effective than your nan's Nivea.
